Nā Pua Mōhala
$12.98

Nā Pua Mōhala. The seeds of Hawaiian culture, music, and hula have been sown across the world and after years of careful tending, we are now experiencing the blossoming of those buds as Hawaiian music and arts gain global popularity, A shining example of this cultivation is the exponential growth of hula and Hawaiian music in Japan. The appreciation that the Japanese have shown for Hawaiian music and hula has grown such that there are hundreds of Japanese Hawaiian music bands and more hula dancers per capita than anywhere in the world!

In 2012, the Japanese Hawaiian music band, Kaulana with their album, "'Ohana", became the only international group in history to win a coveted Na Hoku Hanohano award. Two years later, they've collaborated with multi Na Hoku Hanohano award winners, Kupaoa on this unique, first-of-its-kind project. This collection of 12 original Hawaiian songs include the title track, Nā Pua Mōhala, a Hawaiian translation of the beloved Japanese anthem, Hana Wa Saku, and a new Hawaiian translation of the international favorite, Sukiyaki.

Slack Key Travels

I offer this music with deep gratitude to the islands and people of Hawai‘i for shaping the landscape of my soul and being the source of so much of my musical inspiration." - Jeff Peterson

Internationally acclaimed guitarist Jeff Peterson has established himself as one of the leading slack key guitarists of his generation taking the music from his roots in the ranch lands of upcountry Maui to concert stages around the world and the big screen in the recent Oscar-winning film The Descendants starring George Clooney.

TAIMANE 'UKULELE DANCE
$12.98

TAIMANE: Her name means “diamond” in Samoan and perfectly reflects the different facets of her nature. Whether delicately finger-picking through Bach or radically ripping through Led Zeppelin, Taimane has the ability to morph genres – from classical to rock to flamenco – and stretch her instrument far beyond the familiar melodies of Hawai`i, where she grew up.

Among Taimane’s ‘ukulele teachers turned admirers are Roy Sakuma and Jake Shimabukuro. When Don Ho caught wind of the talented teen, he invited her to join him as part of his venerable variety show at the Waikiki Beachcomber, further fueling Taimane’s desire to perform for and connect with audiences.

In addition to performing her own distinctive versions of well-known pieces, Taimane weaves in original compositions that are as far ranging as her musical tastes. Her breakout CD, ‘Ukulele Dance features Bach’s “Tocatta,” Lalo Schifrin’s “Mission Impossible Theme,” and pieces she wrote for the planet Neptune and the Moon, as part of her series on the solar system.

With the fierceness of a rocker, the grace of a dancer, and the pageantry of a performance artist, Taimane and her music are wowing ever-larger audiences. She lights up rooms wherever she goes, sparkling like the diamond that she is. Learn More

'E
$12.98
One of Hawaii's best kept secrets, Natalie Ai Kamauu, proves she is no stranger to Hawaiian music. Natalie started turning heads when she was just a teenager, singing alongside her father, Howard Ai, for Halau Hula Olana. It wasn't long before Natalie began stealing the show. Although she garnered the coveted title Miss Aloha Hula, it was her angelic voice that really caught people's attention. Many among the hula community and Hawaiian music fans are proclaiming, "Finally!" Natalie Ai Kamauu's first solo release "'E," has arrived. A true labor of love, with husband, Iolani, on vocals and instrumentation, "'E" is a perfect, genuine debut for this stellar vocalist. Even more impressive, she's a songwriter. Natalie's voice dances playfully and soars effortlessly, weaving in and out of the guitar, bass, ukulele, and piano. It's a voice that penetrates straight to the heart and moves the soul. Produced by Na Hoku Hanohano Award winning producer Dave Tucciarone, "'E" seamlessly captures a little bit of sass, and a whole lot of heart. Already a sought after performer, "'E" is sure to secure her place among Hawaii's most beloved female artists. At the very first note, Natalie will command your attention, just as she always has. Grand Ukulele
$15.98

Jake Shimabukuro's highly anticipated follow up to his last record, 2011's "Peace Love Ukulele", which topped Billboard's World Albums chart. Shimabukuro describes recording the album as a "truly magical experience for me. I'm just excited." All the tracks on the album (a mix of original songs, as well as covers) were played and recorded live. "There were absolutely no overdubs," notes Shimabukuro. "Bringing all these people together, and everyone brings their own experience, their own background, their own interpretation, their own spirit, and love and passion for music."

Produced by Alan Parsons, assistant engineer of the Beatles "Abbey Road" and Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of The Moon." Orchestration for the CD was done by Kip Winger, and it's a real treat. The album will not only take Jake to the next level, but is poised to redefine the Ukulele itself. Jake's version of "Over The Rainbow" is completely "over the top" and his cover version of "Rolling In The Deep" is incredible.

English Rose
$12.98
As many have come to know, Kūpaoa means “filled with sweet and heady fragrance.” Lihau Hannahs and Kellen Paik personified that name when their interwoven voices brought a new, fresh essence into the music field.

English Rose conjures up the image of a fresh, voluptuous flower blossoming out from old rootstock. It’s an apt reflection, as each song unfolds like its own petal of a larger bloom. Most are new originals, but with the familiar depth of an older lyrical and musical foundation. There are traditional favorites spiced with lively twists, and English songs, both light and loving. Each piece, each petal makes the collection bloom bigger and brighter. Learn More

Peace Love Ukulele
$15.98
It’s rare for a young musician to earn comparisons to the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Miles Davis. It’s even harder to find an artist who has entirely redefined an instrument by his early 30’s. But Jake has already accomplished these feats, and more, in a little over a decade of playing and recording music. “The sounds this boyish 33 year old wrings from his ukulele – are unlike anything else in the history of
the instrument.”

Yes, the ukulele. In the hands of Shimabukuro, the traditional Hawaiian instrument of four strings and two octaves is stretched and molded into a complex and bold new force. On an album like his new Peace Love Ukulele, Jake and his “Uke” effortlessly (it seems) mix jazz, rock, classical, traditional Hawaiian music and folk, creating a sound that’s both technically masterful and emotionally powerful – and utterly unique in the music world. Mohalu
$12.98

"Mohalu – to be at ease, comfortable, at liberty. As our lives contain many layers, the same is for Mohalu. Mohalu is also the 12th night of the lunar cycle, an eve where planting flowers would be ideal, as these blooms would grow as full and as perfect as the moon on this night. The mana’o (idea or thought) behind Mohalu represent what this sophomore project is for me.

This song selection unfolds to reveal different petals, if you will, of my life. My own mele (songs) are attempts to communicate my inner most feelings in hopes that there are others who can identify with my struggles and my joys."
