“Manawa” means “time.” Mailani has taken the “time” to develop her craft. First with the very successful and award-winning duo Keahiwai, next with the all girl powered Mighty J and at last taking center stage with her first solo album, Mailani. Mailani won her “Female Vocalist of the Year” and the respect of fans and the music community as a top notch solo artist and composer.
Mailani has taken the “time” to honor her culture and hone her craft. She speaks Hawaiian and has studied voice under one of the true greats, Teresa Bright.
Manawa is proof of the evolution of a true artist. An artist that has performed all over the world. An artist that has become a better singer, a better composer, a more commanding performer, a more accomplished guitarist, a tender Hawaiian poet. "Musically gifted, well blended, and pleasing to the ear, three voices, one sound bring together the warmth of the sun..."Na Leo Pilimehana" known today simply as, NA LEO! In a first time effort of a Hawaiian and Hapa Haole recording, these three native beauties now entreat us, the listener, to exquisite vocal blends and rich harmonies.
The songs were composed by natives of the soil, of incidents in their lives, making this musical presentation, Hawaiian. The singer's excellent harmonies shared with the listener, extends their natural warmth.
From the definite up beat rendition of "Don McDiarmid's "Do the Hula", to John "Squeeze" Kamana's enchanting "Pua Mae'ole", this, is all hula. Add to the collection several new compositions and you have a winner!
Then if that's not enough add the Kahauanu Lake and Maddy Lam composition, "Misty Rains and Lehua", with the sophisticated ukulele playing and chord progressions of Walter Kawai'ae'a (Kahauanu Lake's hanai son), creating a beautiful blend with soloist, Lehua Kalima.
So if you're just listening or wanting to hula; Eo e Hawai'i....E Hula Mai Kakou!" -Kahaunau LakeLearn More
"For Love, sounds like it should be the aural equivalent of a particularly slushy rom-com. Thankfully the Maui-born songstress has avoided the temptation to drench her lovelorn lyrics with sickly sweet melodies and schmaltzy strings, and instead has impressively managed to produce a genuinely warm and effortlessly summery record which might even charm those who curse the Feb 14 celebrations...A quietly seductive affair, For Love suggests that when it comes to the ‘female Jack Johnson' label, Colbie Caillat may now have some competition." -Jon O'Brian, Rovi

Raised on homestead land in Waimanalo, Lolena ‘Lena’ Naipo, Jr. goes back to his roots with his band Kahulanui in their first release, Hula Ku‘i. Kahulanui is an inspiration passed down from his grandfather Robert Kahulanui. Lolena remembers stories of his grandfather who was a member of the Royal Hawaiian Band during an era when horns and drums were a part of Hawaiian music. It was from these beginnings that he draws from for Hula Ku‘i. “Throughout Hawai‘i in the 20s and 30s, one could find orchestras playing Hawaiian Swing and the house would be jumping. Kahulanui borrowed from these influences and performed classic Hawaiian songs in a syncopated style making Hawaiian Swing vibrant and alive in Hawai‘i today. With musical influences from Uncle Alvin Kaleolani Isaac, Ray Kinney, Sam Koki, Lani McIntryre and even Spike Jones, I am excited for you to hear Kahulanui with the Kahulanui horn section. It’s Hawaiian Swing at its finest and with today’s technology and the magic of GRAMMY® award-winning engineer/producer Charles Michael Brotman, you have one of the most innovative releases to come out of the islands. You won’t be sitting for long once you hear Kahulanui’s Hula Ku‘i... ‘ami aku, ‘ami mai, ‘ami ‘ami malie…“ - Skylark Rossetti

"All visitors ashore!""¦ was the familiar call from the ports of Tahiti, New Zealand, Fiji, Samoa and our beloved Hawai`i in the 1950s. All who stepped foot on shore fell in love with the mystique and the romance of these magical islands including two distinguished American composers, Alfred Newman and Ken Darby. Combined, these two brilliant men have composed for such award-winning films as The King and I, Wuthering Heights and How the West Was Won. After experiencing the islands, and working with similar arrangements on films South Pacific and Bird of Paradise, they found it impossible to put down their conductor batons and ignore the wondrous and alluring sights and sounds of Hawai`i. In 1960, they produced for Capitol Records, this album, Ports of Paradise, calling it "a culmination and most definitive expression of the enchantment which (they) have found in the moods, the repose, the mystery of those far-off places."Learn More
