Lehua Kalima of Na Leo Pilimehana releases her first solo CD!

Rising in Love is classic Lehua. Original, rich in romance and supported by an amazing band featuring Shawn Pimental on guitar & drums, Michael Grande on keyboards & piano, Imua Garza on electric & acoustic guitar, Randy Aloya on bass, Kaleo del Sol on guitar & vocals, Jay Dee Mannes on pedal steel, Michael Paulo on - saxophone and Jon Porlas on percussion. While still performing as a vital part of Na Leo, Lehua Kalima spreads her wings releasing this much-demanded solo CD debut.

Lehua’s talent extends beyond the sultry tone it lends to the group’s sound and her lyrics have been award winning and memorable. Prevailing with three Na- Ho- ku- Hanohano Awards for Best Song of the Year in 1996 for “Flying With Angels,” in 1999 for “Rest of Your Life” and in 2001 for “Saving Forever,” Lehua thrives in an unmatched category as a lyricist.

While at Kamehameha Schools, Lehua Kalima joined with two good friends, Nalani Choy and Angela Morales to form Na Leo Pilimehana. In their senior year, they won a huge radio competition in Honolulu, Brown Bags to Stardom, playing in front of thousands at the Waikiki Shell. Thirty-one years ago, in the town of Ha’iku, Maui, Neal Yamamura was born. Neal, the only male grandchild on his maternal side, celebrated his first BOYS’ DAY with 27 carp kites, gifts for his maternal grandfather in celebration of his first boy.

At the age of 4, he developed an interest in playing the piano, thus beginning his formal music education. By the 5th grade, he learned to play, on the piano, his elementary school’s entire spring musical just through listening! As a senior independent project, Neal composed and conducted a piece for his high school’s Spring Band Concert. In addition to piano, he is also skilled in playing the bells, baritone, and ukulele.

While in college, Neal discovered his passion and talent for singing karaoke, particularly the Hawaiian falsetto songs. He and several of his karaoke-singing buddies formed the group, Five by 5. Together they recorded 2 albums and performed at various local venues. Neal has studied with vocal coaches including Lani Starr and Melveen Leed. During breaks from practicing and recording, he also sang with his church’s worship team.

When Five by 5 disbanded, he asked his folks to help finance a solo recording of Hawaiian and pop songs that he has always loved. The result is this album, “My Serenity.”

Neal’s passions ranged from coaching gymnastics and spring-board diving, teaching swimming, playing volleyball, and lifeguarding. However, music remains his true passion, so he hopes his love for singing will be shared by his audiences. His quiet, shy personality can be experienced through his singing…thus “My Serenity.”

Born Jordan Salud, in 1985 on the island of Oahu, I.A. is the son of the World Champion boxer Jesus “The Hawaiian Punch” Salud, who is a local icon to Hawaii.
