It's The Brothers Cazimero . . . need I say more? Celebrated and in play all over the world for over 30 years, their music is part and parcel of the modern Hawaiian identity. Distinguishing notes: It's been four years since Robert and Roland Cazimero have released an album, and the drought's over, thankfully. The hiatus has resulted in fertile material, with The Caz composing or co-authoring a stable of dandies. Further, as is characteristic of previous Caz songfests, this one provides a sweeping panorama of Island insights and stories.

Robert Cazimero, considering the Brothers Cazimero's first album in four years, says simply, "It's the right time, but then the other answer would be, 'It's always the right time.'" "Destiny," the long-awaited follow-up to 2004's "Some Call It Aloha ... Don't Tell," which was nominated for a Grammy Award, will be in stores tomorrow.

By John Berger It was deja vu for Robert, left, and Roland Cazimero at the Hawai'i Academy of Recording Arts' 2008 Lifetime Achievement Awards Luncheon on March 15 at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. The brothers, headliners at the Royal from 1982 to 1994, became the seventh group to receive HARA's recognition for career accomplishments -- in their case, first as members of Sunday Manoa in the early 1970s and then as the Brothers Cazimero. Robert thanked Peter Moon, founder of Sunday Manoa, for helping them "step out of the box" of being backing musicians and added that the best thing about being back at the Royal was seeing some of the old-time staff. |
