About Taimane
The ‘ukulele has always been associated with Hawaiian music. its history has encompassed everything from Tin Pan Alley to Tiny Tim. At the dawn of the 21st century, the ‘ukulele is once again enjoying worldwide popularity.
When Taimane was five, her father gave her an ‘ukulele and there was no looking back. Taimane’s original compositions on this breakout CD are as far-ranging as her musical influences. ‘Ukulele Dance features her unique twist on Bach’s Tocatta and Lalo Schifrin’s Mission Impossible in a medley with the James Bond Theme. Listeners will be rivited by the artistry of her technique and the tapestry of her styling. They will come to understand why Taimane is lighting up the music industry.
Whether delicately finger-picking through Bach or radically ripping through Led Zeppelin, Taimane has the ability to morph genres—from classical to rock to flamenco—and to stretch her instrument far beyond the familiar melodies of Hawai‘i, where she grew up. Her fingers fly and her body dances in a whirlwind of skill and sensuality… leaving audiences gaping with amazement!

Come join Taimane as she kicks off the “Secret Sound Showcase” at the Honolulu Museum of Art’s Doris Duke Theatre!
Doris Duke Theatre music programmer Schuyler Tsuda has organized the Secret Sound Showcase to promote some of Hawai‘i’s most exciting artists. Look for up-and-coming performers with a wide range of music styles. The debut concert on Jan. 25, goes from electronica to janglin’ guitar pop to virtuoso ‘ukulele with Clones of the Queen, Pink Mist and Taimane Gardner!
Held on the last Friday of the month, the concerts are a natural segue from the museum’s popular ARTafterDARK parties, which happen on the same night.
Adrenaline-pumped ARTafterDARK guests can now go straight to a rocking show in the theater.
